Venetian Plaster.
Hand-burnished Venetian plaster — the polished, marble-like interior finish. The most demanding plaster work we do.
What it is
Venetian plaster (stucco veneziano) is built from slaked lime and finely ground marble dust, applied in thin, layered passes. The defining step is the burnishing — pressed steel troweling at the right moment in the cure that produces a polished, marble-like surface with depth.
Done correctly, Venetian plaster looks lit from inside the wall. Done poorly, it looks like sponged paint. The difference is hands, time, and patience. Our crew has installed Venetian on residential and commercial work across the Southeast for over two decades.
Our process
From the first site visit to the final coat.
Every project follows a sequence — refined over thirty years and adapted to the substrate, climate, and finish system.
- 01
Substrate prep
Glass-smooth substrate over plaster or properly skim-coated drywall.
- 02
Body coats
Two thin lime-and-marble coats, troweled in cross-passes.
- 03
Burnishing
Steel-trowel burnishing at the precise moment in the cure for the polished depth.
- 04
Wax (optional)
Natural wax sealing for moisture-prone areas.
Common questions
Venetian Plaster — frequently asked.
Can Venetian plaster be installed in a bathroom?
Yes, with proper sealing. We use a natural-wax topcoat in primary bathrooms and powder rooms; full shower walls require a different system.
How is the color chosen?
Color is mixed into the lime body before application — not painted afterwards. We produce on-site samples for sign-off before whole-room installation.
