Natural Stucco.

Lime- and clay-based natural stucco exteriors — the original European technique. Breathable, mineral, and patina-rich.

What it is

Natural stucco is a mineral-only system built from hydrated lime, sand, and selected aggregate. It carries no acrylic, no plastic, and no surface film. Color is integral — sourced from oxides, ochres, or naturally tinted lime — and develops a deeper character over time rather than fading.

These finishes are what most of our European-trained crew grew up applying. They are slower to install, demand a clean substrate, and reward patient detailing with a wall that quite literally improves with age.

Our process

From the first site visit to the final coat.

Every project follows a sequence — refined over thirty years and adapted to the substrate, climate, and finish system.

  1. 01

    Substrate preparation

Mineral-only substrates: lath on framing or properly prepped masonry.

  2. 02

    Lime body coats

Two body coats of lime-and-sand, slowly cured.

  3. 03

    Finish coat

Hand-troweled lime finish, integrally colored or surface-tinted with mineral pigment.

  4. 04

    Cure & seal

Slow carbonation cure; optional silicate sealing only where exposure demands.

Common questions

Natural Stucco — frequently asked.

Why is natural stucco more expensive than synthetic?

Material cost is comparable; labor is the difference. Lime curing is slower, body coats are thicker, and finish work is hand-troweled. You are paying for time and craft.
