Breathable Stucco.
Vapor-open stucco systems built around lime and mineral binders — the right choice when the wall assembly needs to dry to the outside.
What it is
Breathable stucco is the system-level commitment: lime body coats, mineral finish, and breathable paint or wash. It is what you specify when the wall behind the finish is wood-framed, brick, or stone and needs to manage moisture by drying outward.
Most synthetic and acrylic stucco systems trap that moisture. We build full breathable assemblies as a standard offering on restoration and historically informed new construction.
Our process
From the first site visit to the final coat.
Every project follows a sequence — refined over thirty years and adapted to the substrate, climate, and finish system.
- 01
Wall assembly review
Confirm the substrate is a candidate for a breathable system.
- 02
Lime base coats
Two body coats of lime-and-sand.
- 03
Mineral finish
Lime finish coat or natural stucco topcoat.
- 04
Breathable color layer
Lime wash, silicate paint, or breathable paint per spec.
Common questions
Breathable Stucco — frequently asked.
Why does breathability matter in the South?
Atlanta and the broader Southeast cycle through high humidity, heavy rain, and sun. Walls that can dry outward outlast walls that trap moisture in the assembly.
