Potassium Silicate Paint.
Mineral silicate paint — bonds chemically to mineral substrates. The breathable, archival alternative to acrylic exterior paint.
What it is
Potassium silicate (mineral) paint reacts with mineral substrates rather than forming a film over them. The result is a coloured wall that is breathable, UV-stable, and archivally durable — the system specified for restoration of significant historic exteriors.
We apply silicate paints on lime stucco, masonry, and clean concrete substrates.
Our process
From the first site visit to the final coat.
Every project follows a sequence — refined over thirty years and adapted to the substrate, climate, and finish system.
- 01
Substrate testing
Confirm the wall is mineral and uncoated, or strip prior film coatings.
- 02
Silicate primer
Mineralizing primer applied to even the substrate's absorption.
- 03
Two finish coats
Silicate finish coats brushed or rolled in pigment-stable mixes.
Common questions
Potassium Silicate Paint — frequently asked.
Can silicate paint go over existing acrylic paint?
No. Silicate must bond to a mineral substrate. Existing film coatings need to come off before silicate goes on.
